Rats fall in district opener

Black River lost a heartbreaking game to Northpointe Christian 2-1 in a shootout.  Black River got on the scoreboard first at the 18 minute mark of the first half with a headball goal by Kyle Schreur (17th of the season) off a headball assist from Tom Bos.  The Rats played well and defended well until Northpointe was able to break through with a lofted shot with just over 15 minutes to play in the game.  The game remained tied at 1 for the rest of regualtion as well as two overtime periods as each team battled and had scoring opportunities.  After the scoreless overtime periods, the teams went to a shootout.  The Northpointe goalie was on his game and was able to stop the first three Black River attempts as Northpointe won the shootout 3-1.  The Rats ended the season with a 12-6-1 record.  This was the 9th season in a row, the program had at least 10 wins.  Kyle Schreur ended his season with 17 goals and is now in third place all time for goals in a season and also in third place for goals in a career with 33.  Kent Schwartz ended the year with 13 assists, that puts him in second place for assists in a season.  


Varsity Soccer likes to Share

The boys varsity soccer team defeated Heritage Christian on Tuesday 8-0.  7 of the 8 goals were assisted on with the 8th goal being a penalty kick.  "It was a great display of team soccer, we were looking for the best available option and that resulted in a lot of goals," head coach Kyle Lawton said following the game.  The win improves Black river to 7-1 in the Alliance League and 7-3 overall.  Tristan Porter lead the scoring attack with 3 goals while Cedric Porter and Cam Wilson had 2 goals each.  JP Fowler contributed a goal and an assist.  Chente Bickel had 3 assists.  Kent Schwartz, Noah Bonello, and Ein Joiner also had assists.  The Rats are in action again on Thursday against Algoma Christian at 5:15

Boys Lose District Opener

Black River lost 2-0 to Calvin Christian in the district opener. Black River ended the season 12-5-2. Corbin Amaya and Noah Bonello split time in goal making 8 saves.


Boys Varsity Soccer Draws Fennville

Black River and Fennville played to a 1-1 tie. JP Fowler scored for Black River off a corner kick assist from Leo Brisita with 20 minutes remaining in the second half. Fennville got the equalizer with 2 minutes remaining on a penalty kick. Black River ends the regular season 12-4-2 and starts district play on Monday at Calvin Christian at 4:30
